SM SMJA AIR SCOUTS BASIC AVIATION CLASS

After months of learning all about scout basics, the teachers decided to do something different. It is decided that for every 3 scout sessions, we shall have 1 aviation session. This was done in classroom by online classroom with internet. Every student have to register and will learn together and discuss with Skipper Zack on aviation knowledge. So this is a workshop learning where students are the ones coming up with most of the questions, answered by real-scenarios and group discussion.

Students will be tested at the end of each topics and learning can continue at home anytime since it is also an online learning. At the end of the course scouts (year 7-9) will get their airmanship badge and ventures (year 10-11) will get their air venture badge. These will be given in a special ceremony.

REVISING BASIC KNOTS SKILLS

KNOT-TYING HAS LONG BEEN a part of the Scouting program — for good reasons. It promotes discipline and focus, and it teaches useful skills that can be used immediately. Just before we rest for the March holidays, existing scout members teach new members the six scout knots. This was done indoors during one of the CCA periods.
The activity was also a good opportunity for other members revise their knot skills and teach each other. At the end of class, all scouts are instructed to display knots neatly (making a knot card) with individual creativity using any materials they prefer.

SCOUTS LEARN THE BASICS

"IF YOUR GET YOUR BASICS WRONG, THEN WHATEVER YOU LEARN AFTER THAT WILL NOT BE ACCURATE". This are the famous words of Skipper Zack who has been teaching scouting for many years. Good basic is the foundation of many knowledge. That is why in many teachings it is emphasized greatly. In Scouting it is the same. Knowing the meanings of Scout Promise and Law. Knowing the meaning of Scout Emblem and Scout Salute.

In fact, these are inter-related and students discovered to be interesting. At the end of the session new scout members will be tested by patrol leaders and verified by teacher in charge.

GETTING ORGANIZED!

Today marks the second session for SMJA Troop 1001 CCA Meeting. The theme was getting organized. One of the things to do when organizing at the beginning of the year are.

1. Establishing who is the teacher in-charge
2. Establishing who are ventures and scouts for this year
3. Getting registration matters correct.

So today we are at item 3 which is briefing on differences of registration forms, who to submit to and when. This was done by Skipper Zack who represents PPNBD as the Scout Commissioner from HQ.

After a few rounds of good question and answers, the session was taken over by Rover Crew from Troop 1033, namely Ahmad, Arif and Wajeh. By teaching parts 1,2 and 3 of the basic world bureau badge, they have achieved a good 1 hour of teaching service. It was also witnessed by the Principal, Cikgu Hjh Norhashimah bte Hj Burut and Deputy Principal, Cikgu Nor'izzah bte Hj Othman.

All of us at SMSMJA thanks KUPUSB Rovers and hope that such assistance are consistent.

New Rover that will be assisting teachers will be Rover Squire Lizam. He was one of the first members in 1001 and now volunteers to assist the troop that made him who he is now.

New structure for troop will be,

Cikgu Hajah Zariah as the overall teacher-in-charge

Cikgu Hajah Zunaidah to lead boy and girls scout section

The session continued with briefing of the difference between boys and girls sections and venture sections. The strategy this year is to cover as much as possible from last years program and initiate online learning options in case there might be a second wave this year.

SMJA AIR SCOUTS CELEBRATE WORLD SCOUT SCARF DAY

The Brunei Darussalam Scout Association (PPNBD) marked the World Scouts Scarf Day at Super Tree, Pekan Bangar in Temburong District yesterday, joined by scouts across the country.

Celebrated by scout members around the globe every August 1, the PPNBD event was joined by Acting Temburong District Officer Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubaarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim. The ceremony began with a speech from event chairman Pengiran Mahdi bin Pengiran Haji Salleh, followed by a presentation of a souvenir to the acting district officer from PPNBD President Haji Metussin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba.

SM SMJA Air Scouts participated in the event after months of no scout activities. It was nice to be in uniform again and meet friends. The boys were appointed as front-liners to check for temperature for visitors. The girls contributed in the choir. It was also a learning experience to see that Air Scouting in Brunei actually started as early as 1999. And it was very active in Kuala Belait district. The display from the former teachers was called "the Blues" and there were the air scout leaders that championed the movement.

We hope that there will be more fun events to participate and keep the movement alive. We thank the organizers, air scout commissioner, teachers and all persons who invited us and made this day great for us.

SCOUT AVIATION CAMP 2019 - SMJA VISITS IBTE SCHOOL OF AVIATION

We never knew there was such thing as a school of aviation in Brunei. This awesome school teaches aircraft mechnisms and engines. Its actually this green building near the airport and inside is where students after O levels can learn to be aircraft technicians taught by real engineers and aviators. Its not just classroom learning but learning with real aircrafts and wearing white shirts like they use in airports.

We are glad that we are in the air scouts and get to meet see for ourselves where our aviation interest will lead us. We discover that there is more to what Brunei education can offer, you just have to join the right club and they will show the right path and options. We are now inspired to learn more and score in our O level results so we can be apart of the country's aviation industry.

We thank you the kind teachers and organizers for showing us around the center and teaching us as much as they can about parts of aircraft and how things work.  We also like the food provided by IBTE Catering. We know that all these were not possible if its not by the kind dedications of all of you. Thank you.
